Adult Acne

Adult acne is less common than adolescent acne. However, it can be just as damaging, or even more so emotionally speaking, because most adults assume that they will at least get rid of that reaching adulthood. Though there is no secured reason for acne in general, adult acne can be caused by stress, bacteria, sweat, toxins, and all the other reasons that are known to contribute to adolescent acne. The best treatments therefore are those that would work for adolescent acne.

However, with adult acne, more severe forms of acne are more likely. In fact, most severe cases occur between the ages of 18 and 35. The best treatment is prevention. So, just because you have reached adulthood does not mean that you should not continue to cleanse your face on a regular basis, eat a healthy diet low in fats, avoid picking at the acne you do get, and scrub the entire body shortly after any workout that would cause even a small amount of sweat.

If you have a severe case of acne, the best thing to do is to consult your dermatologist and consider an aggressive treatment of Accutane or other prescription medications, though Accutane has been the only one proven successful in severe cases. But severe acne cases only afflict a small percentage of the population.
